At our house we have a room that is totally devoted to all things creative. My hubs is an artist, that is not his primary job but he dabbles enough to make some extra cash-o-la!! That makes this crafty mommy happy!! The hubs is very talented, his primary focus in art is sports action watercolor portraits. Say that 10 times in a row really fast! Since I am so proud of him I will take the time to do a lil braggin on my main squeeze! I know I told you I would show you some handmade ornaments starting today, don't worry we will get to it! I wanted to feature the hubs first....
DeMarcus Ware who plays for the Dallas Cowboys.....now this water color portrait isn't even totally finished. My baby daddy got some mad skills with watercolor. We have a small gallery that hangs in our art room that displays some of his work. Take a peek!
I told you my hubs is super talented. I love that we have a room that we can share our love of art and be creative together. Our styles are so different but we both share a love of expressing ourselves through art! Now we all know who this hunk of burning love is above... none other than....Derek Jeter!! OOO lala! The hubs knows this girl loves my baseball BF Derek. So nice of him to paint a portrait of him. Well I don't know if it was for me but.... I will just pretend he painted it for me. *wink wink* HA! If you have a portrait you would like painted by my super talented hubster send me an email or facebook me. He is taking orders for Christmas and can customize just about anything! Get on it, he has limited time! Had to give em a plug... :)
I will say there is ALWAYS a work in progress in our house. This painting above on the left is a landscape of some trees that are behind our house that the hubs is working on. I already know where this will hang in our home. I can't wait until his finishes it. Our lil monster's like to get in on the action as well. So they have a spot on the wall that is just for them.
Our big kid made this for the hubs and I. I love that she, on her own thought to make something that represented her daddy and I. I love how the heart has two colors that make one heart. Amazing how kids see what is going on around them yet she was able to express it on paper. I think that is SOO super cool! Waaay to go my cool big kid! Love her!
So now what you have been thirsting for alllll day! HA! I like to humor myself sometimes. Since the theme of the day is to create something, lets make an ornament for your CHRISTmas tree. Here is a list of items you will need to create this ornament:
1. Scrapbook paper
2. brown Kraft paper
3. Glitter
4. Elmer's glue
5. Scissors (straight and pinking shears)
6. Hot glue (the heavens are singing!!)
7. Clip art
The Graphics Fairy
I LOVE this site. All her graphics are free and ooomeeegoshawesome!!
Cut out a piece of brown Kraft paper about 12x12 you can cut it as big or small as you would like. Fold it back and forth until it is one long strip.
After you fold your paper accordion style, add hot glue up the middle, the entire V shape you see.
Now get another 12x12 piece of brown Kraft paper and make another fan. Hot glue each fan together, the point on the end and all the places that are open glue those all together. It will end up looking like a big circle.
Brush Elmer's glue on the end of the fan circle, work your way around as you sprinkle glitter on the edge. Lookin good!!
The last few steps are pretty self explanatory. The clip art I chose was the face of a clock. I love clock faces. The paper that will be behind the clock face is Christmas scrapbook paper. You can customize your ornament anyway you like, don't feel like you have to choose the same thing. The Graphics Fairy has 2300 images you can download, so take a look if you need more inspiration.
So to finish up I hot glue the music note paper to the circle fan. I also painted the edges of the clock with the Elmer's glue and dipped it in green glitter!! Every girl needs a lil glitter in their life! The more the better if you ask me, but I had restraint! Whew that was hard!
After you glue the music paper and clock face on. Get your handy dandy hole punch and punch a hole. I added a jute string and voila ornament!!
There she is waiting to be hung on the real Christmas tree in a few weeks! Since this is a pretty big ornament I will only make a few of these to hang on the tree. Another idea is to make several, string them together across the mantel or a window. SUPER CUTE! This ornament isn't new to the world of hand made ornaments. It is new to our collection and it is my unique creation. I love it and my family will enjoy the new addition this Christmas. I hope I have inspired you to have a handmade Christmas holiday. Choose what you love and add your own style and you can CrEaTe something too!!
Have a Happy Day! G
